7 speed 4matic

Does anyone have any insight into whether the 2008 E350 4matic will have the new 7 speed transmission and the newest generation 4matic? By 2008 I mean the current body style, not the new model which looks like it will actually be considered a 2009.

Thanks

I believe that the V12 motors will still retain the 5 speed auto. Not sure, but that is the way it looks right now.

Sorry, the V12's are also keeping the 722.6 (5spd auto).

Thanks red308

I don't think you really answered the original question. I agree that likely all "smaller" engines will get a 7G-Tronic but the question was specifically about an E350 4-Matic MY 2008.

My guess is that since (if) there is no change in the engine and no change in the body, they would not change the tranny alone.

The same engine seems to be available with a 7G-Tronic on other models, in that sense there should not be any issue to put it on a 4-Matic E-class.

Anyway, I have not info about the future of diffent engine/tranny combinations. On the other hand, Julian does not list any tranny news for 2008 (but this 7G-tronic for a 4-Matic E may not be exceed his reporting threshold):
JESMB (Coming soon) (look at the tranny info)

Well, I work as a technician at a dealer and we have already been getting 2008 models including w/s211's for PDI. And yes, they all do have the 722.9 (722.907 with the M272 V6 or 722.901 with the M273 (V8).

Hope that clarifies anything.

Can you confirm that the cars included a 4-Matic model too, that was the question, was clear for the rear wheel driven models already.

Then again, there's no 4Matic with V12s, so what's the relevance?

Thank you Diesel Benz and joshuajeeper. DB had the issue right. The rear wheel drive models already have the 7 speed, but the 4matic has retained the 5 speed up untill now. I am hoping that will change for the 2008 models. I would like to replace my 2000 E320 4matic, but the transmission and drive train is very unrefined - lots of hard shifts and noisy shifts in and out of gear at low speed - and so I am hoping the new tranny is better. By the way, this has been the case since new and many trips to the dealer have never been able to improve it.

Thanks for your info.
