MB phones...

Hello,
I have a 93' 400E with a phone connection intigrated into the arm rest. I went to the dealer to see how much it would cost to replace mine, since it was a bit beat up, and found out that the arm rest I have was for a 94' model. I'm a bit confused there.... But my big question here is, is there anyway I can find out if a phone is still available for the setup I have???? And if so where could I find some info?
Cheers...

Anything is possible if you have enough money to make it happen, but my advice would be to just use your cell phone. Another suggestion is to ask the guys on the Audio and Telematics forum, or search there using 400E to see if anyone has posted a practical solution.

I have looked for a solution for my '97 E420 without success. Basically, everything in the car is too antiquated to work with modern cell equipment. I'm confident you will find the same is true for yours as well.

While anything is possible, there just isn't enough market for someone to develop a backwards-compatible solution. There are solutions for '99 or newer cars, but nothing farther back than that.

That is the same discovery I made when I had my 1998 E430. 1999 and newer, yes, 1998 and older, no dice.

Appreciate the feed back. I don't know why I didn't post in the tech forum, i'll have to check that as well.
I could just use a cell phone but would like to have the original old school setup. Trying to complete the car. Why not, right?
Anyway, I have done some searching and heard of Mikbox.com which states what was said only available on 99' and newer Mercs. Damn...
I will keep looking and post any positive results on locating a source.
Cheers...

I agree about having the car fully function as originally intended but the technology of phones is changing so quickly that MB is even having trouble keeping up with the new cars.

Nokia still makes a digital car phone, it's a slightly different shape from the origional motos or whatever was in the US cars but it might be worth a look.

Good point NZ Benz. And as far as I know, Motorola has a lock on Mercedes, at least in the U.S.A.

I hope you get success on your set-up. Nothing better than watching TV shows from the early 90's and seeing them talk and the car phones in their Mercedes. Lol wish I could do that

Good for a second I thought I was the only one that wished he had an old car phone even though I've got a cellphone and hands-free in my car I'd love a car phone they are so cool.
