I love to do it myself as well other than having a bad rotator cuff from cross country skiing. Since owning a diesel, I never liked changing oil. I took an A/C job to a small shop, and the guy is a crook. Should have gone to the sdealer in the first place and would had been cheaper.

Other than that, stick to some place you know. I have 7 cars and one shop gets all the oil change business (Speedy Oil Change). It has worked well so far. Only get batteries from Sears. Had a tire shop mess up parking brake switch once and told me to get a brake job. Now, most tires come from Costco. I simply left the groove in and it wore flat with time. Some good shops only do certain things. Santa Clara Wrecking is a great and honest 4x4 shop but they only work on drivetrains.

I made mistake myself also. Did a brake job on the rear drum of the Suburban and a slave cylinder plunger fell off and cut a groove in the drum.

DB, it's a tongue-in-cheek joke that changing the oil would result in failure of AC.

Sears service can be spotty (listen to Ron White's story about them, talk about bad labor) but you'd have to be completely inept to goof up the AC while changing oil.
