Anyone had a problem with wood trim?

I'm still working on my iPod docking panel.

I finally got an OE wood panel that's large enough for me to cut down to the exact size that I need.

The issue is that I'd like to remove the wood from the metal backing plate and have no idea how.

Has anyone had an issue of the wood peeling away from any pieces? I'm curious if it's held on by a glue that I could soften up with heat?

Any experience working with the interior trim or other input would be appreciated.

(I'm working with the square fold down piece from the center of an E-Class).
