I think they expect to have an ongoing revenue stream from that 19.9%, which will help recover some, if not all, of that $28.5B. At least that's how I would have structured that deal.
Besides, they got $7.5B for 80%, which means they really realized about $15B of that $36B, making the "loss" only $21B, not $28.5B...
