Trying to add some ooomph to my E320

I am running a 2004 E320 with Sport Package and would like to try to add some power/performance to my car.

Has anyone here chipped their E320?
What company did you use and do you notice the performance increase? Powerchip claims about 17HP gain and 23ftlbs Torque.
Are you getting better gas milage as well?
Was it worth the cost to you (about $700)?

Anyone currently using Sprintbooster on their E320?
Sounds like lots of rave reviews. How aboutgas milage for your car,
sounds like most are losing 2-3mpg...

Thoughts on one vs. the other? Does one have an advantage over the other one?

Thanks in advance,
-Matt-

Power-chips are illegal in California and probably in some other states. My impression is, that they guzzle the gas to get that extra power, while factory programming is giving you best bang for a dolar.
Don't think you will tell 17 HP gain on 220 HP engine.
I keep my money.

Yes, if there was no compromise, why wouldn't the car come with the "chip" from the factory. Even if was done in a way that gas consumption was maintained, one would lose dollars on engine longevity. No free lunch, not even close.

MB offers several higher performance versions if the E320 isn't enough, of course it costs accordingly.

I think if you want more power, you should look for an E500 (302 HP). Plus the same basic engine has been in service for quite a while, since at least 2000.

Hi, floorit.

The other posts are dead on. If you want more performance, buy the E with the 8, either the 430, 500 or 5.5 AMG.

You're flogging a dead horse trying to get more out of it, even if you got 17 more it would still not be significant.

One correction re: chipping: it is illegal anywhere in the US because it violates US EPA regs. Whether you'd be caught is a different issue, but it would still be a violation of federal law whose penalities include free transportation to a federal penitentiary.

Moreover, the stock E320 qualifies as a ULEV, rechipping will undoubtedly destroy that. Why pollute more if you don't have to?

Do yourself a favor: get the bigger engine, save the air at the same time.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

PS, if you stay in the E class post up in the 211 or 210 forum (depending upon year) as those are the native forums for these cars; you're likely to get much more useful information there than in the general forum.

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. (Winston Churchill)

Or trade it for an E350, significant power increase, slightly better gas mileage too. E350 is a much more modern design with DOHC and variable valve timing on intake and exhaust.
