I think the Camry is a very good car, lacks personality but a good, dependable car up to about 120K miles. It is made about 20 minutes north of my house.
On the other hand, my shop makes all of its expenses monies [rent, utilities, workman’s comp, etc] by rebuilding Camry motors at about the 150,000 mile level. I have always got at least one in the shop, to the point that I buy rebuild kits by the dozen to get a better price break.
Also after about 150,000 miles many of them look like they are ready for Carl's Backrow Car Barn with interior components looking pretty rough and paint fading at somewhat odd patterns [check out the "smoke silver" from the mid nineties in a parking lot and count the number of shades of silver/tan.
Being smart is knowing the difference, in a sticky situation between a well delivered anecdote and a well delivered antidote - bear.
