I see lot od members assume that the oil used by a dealer is the recommended one.
Some might not know, that dealers are buying oils in big drums, or even bigger tanks for lower price, so they don't want the mess with 3 different tanks for different application.
So if the dealer pickup dirver goes with drums to a warehouse and the warehouse is out of 0-40 , he will pick up 5-40 and that's what the customers at that dealership are going to get for next few months.
Mercedes engines are basic engines with no trick in them. I happened to own more tricky engines. My Detroit is 2-stroke Diesel. My PowerStroke is using crankase oil for pushing injectors, so they require low-foaming, or low-ash oils.
That never stopped me from adding any motor oil when I run out of the recommended one.
