getting history of the car, options, window sticker
Get ahold of a sympathetic salesman, or someone in the service or parts department of your Mercedes dealer, and ask them to print you a copy of the MB Net, also known as the Vehicle Master Inquiry ("VMI").
It will spit out a series of 3 digit codes, each of which will be a description of an option or equipment on the car. Each one will need to be translated to ordinary English.
There will also be some damage ("DMG") codes with each one reflecting a warranty claim made on the car, along with the MB dealer (also in code), date and mileage the car was in. Even roadside assistance calls will be included.
The DMG codes can be translated, so you can get a synopsis of what each warranty claim was about.
The VMI will ALSO include the factory build date, date and mileage of arrival at the port prep center, and date, mileage and dealer (in code) of first delivery to the first retail customer.
You may call 1-800-FORMERCEDES and with proof of ownership satisfactorily established, they will send you a copy of the window sticker. Probably it will be just a grainy "accounting copy" but it will be the window sticker nonetheless.
You can take it yet a step further and write to the Daimler Chrysler historical archives in Stuttgart, with a polite request for a copy (in English) of the factory build sheet for the car. You'll need to include proof of ownership of the car (copy of title would suffice) along with the VIN.
You should hear back within about a month or so.
Hope that helps.
