No state listed, so we can go wild guessing?
With diesels in USA you don't have many choices.
There is a big number of 78-85 legendary diesels still on the road, but they are over 20 years old.
Than you have 124 body, that had diesels available like 1990 to 1995 (somebody correct me?). I used to have 93 with 2.5l 5-cylinder. Great fuel economy (36 mpg at 70 mph) but not much legroom for my long legs.
I love 210 body for better legroom and additional gadgets like more airbags, traction control and diagnostic, but for naturally aspirated 96-97 engine the $10k might be barely enough, while for turbo models that were imported 98 till 99 you need at least $13k and $16k for pristine one.
Good luck on your search.
Avoid 86-88 engines, since their heads are prone to crack.
BTW 2 diesels MB I bought used -I sold for more than I paid for. That was after about 2 years of driving them.
Better investment than real estate lately.
