Oil Change - Broken Part

In the process of removing the oil filter from my 1999 E320, I noticed that the cannister that holds the oil filter is broken. Now I have a car with no oil in it and am unable to put in the new filter. Auto parts stores do not stock the piece that the filter fits on. It's Sunday and the MB dealership is closed.

I am going to have to replace the part, but the closet MB dealer is 100 miles away. Can anyone guess as to what the cost of this part will be? I'm either going to have to drive the 100+ miles to pick it up, or have it overnight shipped.

The long plastic piece that the filter slides over is broken off from the cap. I am afraid to just slide it back in place with it not being secured. Not a good day for me, but if anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate hearing them.

How about calling M-B roadside assistance? 800-FOR-MERC - I know they will replace your battery if you are disabled for that reason.

If they cannot help with your situation, I would have the part overnighted. My guess is that a 200 mile round trip will cost you over $100. Did you realize the IRS allowed me 44.5 cents/mile for my business miles last year? If THEY figure it costs us that, then YOU know it's really about twice that much.
