I have a 1995 E320 with 179,000k (112,000 miles) on the clock.
It's in very good condition. The last major work was when a head gasket went about 18 months ago.
I'm told that the factory recommend replacing the transmission at 200,000k.
It'll take me about a year to reach that figure.
1. Should I have the transmission done?
2. What further life can I expect from an E320 of this age? Could I expect to get another 179,000k without incurring really major expense?
3. If I decide to replace it at this stage, what should I be looking for? My MB dealer thinks that MBs made after 1998 are not the equal mechanically of those made before that date. I have no way of telling whether this is true, but if I bought a new car I would be covered by warranty.
