This is probably a mistake jumping into the middle of this "conversation," but I also do all of the A and B services on my 210 myself. I am far from a mechanic and far from a great diagnostician, but over the past fifteen years or so with the help of lists like this, the factory manuals and a little experience, I feel comfortable enough and confident enough that I can do the jobs myself. If I come up with a job I'm not sure about, I have no problem asking for help from those with more experience than I. I also have a pretty good and competent dealer if needed, but I rarely use them. It is just a big PIA to drive an hour to them, leave the car for a day and/or hang around the dealership all day. The convenience of doing it myself is more important to me than the cost of the service, but still when all is said and done, I feel that the service my car gets from me is more thorough than what it would get at the dealership and look at all the bucks I've saved, not to mention the bonding time with my car.

Now play nice boys.

I'm in Len's boat exactly. I do what I can & let the mechanic do the rest. Just about anyone can change an air filter & check the tires. I live in a highrise condo so I cannot do messy stuff even if I wanted to. When the mechanic does the oil change, etc. he checks over the car looking for any other needs (he can make money on) the car may have over & above the maintenance schedule.

Jayhawk, I reckon asianml is actually about 17 years old and you and I both know that, having been 17 ourselves once, he actually does know everything. Furthermore, any attempts to convince him otherwise are futile.
