Let your insurance co. take care of the problem and they'll cut you a check for a new car. That beautiful E36 M3 (my fav M3 i might add) is almost certainly already in Mexico by now.
I am second - if anyone going to steal my Audi - they more than welcome - All I'll ask if i can pick up the MB oil filter from the trunk. I'll take insurance money and buy myself a new one. On the other hand I would miss the Mercedes.

You probably right - car likely in Mexico or going to.

Glad to hear you're okay, it's always better to live to buy another car.

It's nice to think that someday criminals will get their due, but with our society that happens far too infrequently.

FWIW, I have a whole litany I go through when selling a car/motorcycle to a private party. Meet inside a public place, Starbucks in a grocery store is perfect, photocopy their license and mail it to myself (obviously the public place has to have a mailbox, I have a SASE ready for the purpose), and talk with them. Use the BS meter, call it off if necessary, if all feels good then you can proceed outside to the test drive etc. When people call I tell them this is how it will go down, serious buyers never care, the flakes flake out first.

This is a lot of effort, but it increases safety a great deal as well.

Good luck, if they find it I hope it's not trashed.

If someone steals my E I hope they fix the front end before it's returned.

Take care and enjoy (the replacement?) ride,
Greg

Hope they catch them, although with pro's it's probably not likely. I would be inclined not to want the car back after the crooks screwed with it...and I'm not even a major germ phobe. I just can't imagine someone driving around in my baby.

We debated putting LoJack in our car, but decided to spend the money on wood flooring in the house instead. Car can be replaced. I just got to stop storing our valuables in the boot.

Yes, usually there is an order for that car.

I was on a jury panel on such a car thief. It was part of a larger sting operation that netted several defendants. In this case the police got lucky and caught the guy red handed. We returned a guilty verdict and funny that a single juror held out and it took a long deliberation to return the verdict. This is due process.

Good thing was that I was off jury duty for three years after that.

Had a situation like this before , i was selling a 2002 s 500 amg for about 27k cashiers check , to make a longs story short i had a broom that i was using to clean the shop with and i had it in my hand because i was cleaning when they came , it was around 7 pm and the 2 ( African American guys ) pulled a 9mm glock 19 on me and asked for a test drive , when i was so scared that i just got the broom and hit his arm as fast and as hard as i could and to tell you the truth i did not feel guilty at all breaking the guys arm in 3 different places. I grabbed the gun off the floor and was trying to call 911 with my other hand after letting go of the broom but i was "ON HOLD" but there was a petrol car driving down the street when i just had to shoot in the air and wave to get his attention , longer story short the guy was taken to hospital then jail .

Im not saying that you should do that if you were at gun point but i did what i had to do , and im a pretty big guy so ppl dont expect me to move quick but man were those guys wrong........

BTw nice M3 and i hope you can find it , not to hard to miss when its modded.

Sorry about the ride but you did the right thing. By the way, theives come in every color and race so you dont have to mention their ethnic background. if a guy or girl put a gun in my face and took my baby, I wouldnt give a rats a** what color, creed, race, relegion he or she was other than to tell the police.

Guess I'll be trading all my future vehicles in to the DEALER! At least when they rob me they smile and don't use a gun.
