I agree with you. These dealers are probably buying the oil in bulk too, at least 55 gallon barrels of it. Some of the largest dealer might even have a tank that holds 100s of gallons that a tanker truck just pulls up and pumps into.

As to the race cars, I think no matter which series we choose to discuss (NASCAR, F-1, Indy, etc.) the various companies are paying money to have their logos on the cars. A lot of people assume that they actually use the products, and maybe some do, but I think it is a little deceptive if they don't.

They say it is just advertising.

I play tennis. In the tennis business, there is a strange thing called "paint job". Basically the pros do not like to change their raquets but the manufactures want them to so they can always sell new ones. Thus this paint job business. More often than not, the pros are actually using different (often older) raquets than the paint would say. One (good) exeption is Pete Sampras. He refused to use paint jobs and stick to his St Vincent Wilson ProStaff Midsize. He would have made a lot more money. Now they have life-time Raquet deals. Federer with Wilson and Sharapova with Prince.

The bottom line is that "it is not about $$$, but it is all about $$$." Just like us, LOL

No argument from me.

I used to play tennis too, so I had heard of that deal with the paint. I had never thought much about Pete's racquets, although I do remember that he used a Wilson ProStaff. I don't know what the St. Vincent means, but I'll certainly take your word for it. He was one of my all-time favorite players.

Wilson replaced one of my older (Jack Kramer Autograph) wooden racquets for free once, and from that time on, I always bought Wilsons. The last one was a Graphite 110, but I can't remember the model.

I read once that those pros made more money in endorsements than they ever did in prize money. I'll not mention the "appearance fees" that I think we both know about.

Ya, that wide body Graphite 110.

St. Vincent is a Carribean island in the Grenadines. Wilson had a factory there. When Wilson moved the production to Taiwan/China (it is all about $$$ again, LOL), Pete had all the remaining frames shipped to him (I think he got a few hundreds). Even though the frames from St Vincent, Taiwan, China look the same, there are subtle weight, balance, stiffness, and composition differences. Pete liked the ones from St Vincent. Those demand good money nowadays.

Today Pete cannot handle that demanding raquet anymore. He is using the "Federer" frame. He is going to play some competitive (professional) tennis this coming summer. I think he is playing the World Team Tennis (WTT) for the Newport Beach Breakers.

Thanks for the info Bo!

I used to go to the ATP tournament near King's Island (closest for me). I missed John McEnroe (he had just retired) but I saw most of the greats from the latter '90s - Sampras, Edberg, Agassi, Lendl, Becker, Chang, and too many more to name.

I was wondering if that is close enough to Western Michigan for you to have gone? The only thing I didn't like about it was it was so hot, in the middle of August as I guess you know, and I think 2 weeks before the US Open.

Let's go OT just a bit further: I'm not a prince, but I wouldn't mind a lifetime deal with Sharapova.

Haha, hi Greg.

Yeah, we're straying a bit here aren't we?

Sharapova is a real beauty, no question about that.
