Exclamation What to do when garage door opener is lost.

Hey everyone,

I didn't post this in OT because I don't have privileges there, yet (due to post count I believe). I have a Craftsman 1/2hp garage door opener and the remote was left outside by a relative (Why you ask? I ask the same). Well, I'm assuming someone I don't know has it and I want to reset the opener. Do I just unplug it?

Hope you still have the manual which should show how to set the dip switches to change the preset frequency. Since you do no longer have the remote you will need to get another compatible with the model you own - additional info might also be given on the package of the new remote to help you.

Unplug woudn't work - you have to reset the opener - call Sears\Craftsman customer service - they will tell you how to do it.

What you should do depends on the model of the opener. Some are rolling codes and all you need to do is program the existing openers in enough times to "push" the old code out. Older openers have the dip switches as described earlier. If you wanted to upgrade the receiver, do as I did. Purchase a new receiver with 2 remotes and you're set. Ran me about $70. I also did this so I could use the homelink option in the car. It works very well and is secure because the homelink only works when the key is in the ignition.
