Angry Mercedes water pump fan

I had a new water pump fan installed in my 500E because one of the blades partially was missing. The new fan wobbles out of whack by 3/8". The Mercedes dealer who installed it stated that this is normal and adamately does not want
to replace it with another. The replacement fan with the labor was $475.,
Does anybody out there know that the wobble is normal or should I insist for them to replace it?

Is there a Mercedes representative in North America to call to see if various dealers are performing according to the standards of Mercedes Benz?

I would also like to konw. My fan blades wobble and just had the water pump done on m112 engine. The engine ran smooth for about 2k miles then started vibrating again. Ugh, why would they do the water pump and put wobbly fan and worn belt back on? I really cant stand the dealers.

I have no experience with a 500E but I don't think what you are describing is anywhere near normal.

Good Luck and welcome to the forum!

Never have seen wobbling fan on Mercedes.
Are those the blades wobbling only, or the center ring as well?
If the ring wobbles, the chances are somebody didn't put it right.

Doesn't sound right to me either. If they refuse to replace it, get it in writing on the RO that the wobble is normal.

You didn't say who at that dealer told you they would not replace it. If he/she was an underling, it sounds like you will need to move upward in the chain of command. If you need to, I'd advise you to go all the way up to the owner.

If your car was under an M-B warranty, you could go further up the ladder to the M-B regional rep and that might still be possible. Hopefully, you can resolve this long before a drastic step like that.

Good Luck!

The service department manager asked the mechanic who installed it.--- Kinda like the Fox in the hen house who likes chickens.

I'm sorry that I missed this question earlier. Yes, there certainly is/are but the first step (??) is usually the regional rep whom I mentioned earlier. JOE55 had a different choice of where to begin.

According to some posters on here, MBUSA disavows any responsibility and defers to the individual dealers (for at least certain) service disputes.

I like to think that these are rare occurances and that they (MBUSA or their regional reps), valuing you as a customer, will intervene if it looks like you are being treated unfairly by one of their dealers.
