Replace old black plastic SmartKey to new 2007 Chrome Key, possible?

I'm just wondering whether I can get the new chrome key for the 2007s in replace with my 2006 ML350 black old plastic key? Thanks!

A hint: search for "chrome key" on the forums:

I think I read that you can... Ask your dealer. And/or do a search!

Don't believe everything you think

Smile That's a yes, got one for my '01 E320

Got it from Hammersley Motors in Virginia, had to email proof of ownership but got the key within 2 days after I ordered. Don't recall the phone number / web address but there's a thread as mentioned earlier. Both old & new keys work great, new key works a bit better but not much, just glad to have 2 keys as my car only had one. The $130 it cost for the key & the insert-blade is cheap insurance

For a 2006, you certainly should be able to. I think some of the older cars (no idea how old) have a problem with the newer keys, but I was fine with my 2001.

Hi!

I have a 2006 SLK 55 and got my Key from Mercedes Benz.
You will need serial number and depending on your Dealer ...a Drivers License to proof this is you. You should also get a letter from Mercedes Benz that this is your third key. The cost in Canada was $169.00 plus Taxes.

There's a guy selling the chrome case on ebay. Minimum bid $50. I was thinking about purchasing one but my remote cases are almost new. Also, I was thinking what would happen if I dropped the key and chipped or dented the chrome. Would it eventually peel and cause a sharp edge? I know it would be easy to repair the black plastic case but I can't say the same about chrome. I do like the way it looks but it spends a great deal of time in my pocket.
