The only keys that we (MB tech) still sell black key only is some of the 2004-2005 keyless go cars. They still seem to have a bit of a problem with them.

My dealer brought in a car from auction to hopefully sell as a CPO (certified pre-owned) and had some major issues with the keyless go. We found out that the keys were not communicating with the KG antenna amplifier and module so we replaced the EIS and 2 new keys (chrome) immediately we had additional issues trying to get the EIS and shifter to learn the keys. One key would turn in the EIS and the other would start with the KG button but no circuit 15 or 15r (accessory and run) positions. We found that the keys opperate on a slightly different frequency that this 2004 SL500 did not like and ended up blocking ALL keytracks in the progress messing up coding everywhere. A big long TAC (Tech. Assistance Center) case was opened and through 2 months of research found the frequency issue on the chrome keys. The fix was; get this!

2 NEW keys (black)
1 NEW EIS
New Shifter Assemby
New ETC (valve body)
New ME (ECU)

AND FINALLY EVERYTHING WORKS!

So because of this, if your car is a 2004/5 KeylessGo car, I don't think MB will even get a chrome key for you. Unless its been fixed in the past month??

Hey, Joseph, which OEM Parts did you go through? There are several under a google search, none of the ones I looked at had replacement keys. If you don't mind telling, what did it cost and how much did the stealership charge to program it?

Thanks and as always, take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

Isn't that the same place a bunch of us got chrome keys in Virginia? I think they are called OEM Parts Direct too, but as an MB dealer they have another name.

OEM Parts Direct :: Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and Volvo

Did you just ask for a replacement key or was there a problem with your old black key?
