Since manual is an option only for the smaller engines even in Europe, it would be unlikely in the US. From E320CDI and E350 upwards (and included) all E-class are automatic.

In the United States these days, there are a LOT of people who can't even drive a manual, and have never been trained to do it.

I'm glad I learned to drive on one. More and more, these days in the USA, manuals are available on very small economy cars, sports cars and large trucks, only.

Driving manual is a skill and like other skills takes training. All my trucks are always manuals, so I stay in touch. My wife drove manual for several years, but drives automatics for last 15. Couple years ago she offered to park my compact truck in the carport. Took her starting the engine about 7 times on 30' distance.

I found automatics to be scarce in the UK, from what I saw and from what I've heard from people living there. That's fine news for me; I'll take the manual any day. 2009!!!!!

I have a SLK350 with the 6-Speed Manual. (I had to wait 8 months to get it from original time of order.) The manual in this series of SLK is much improved over the previous series. I would assume that the new C class will have this series of manual transmissions. I have read that in the U.S. the sport version of the C class will be offered with a manual transmission. I image that the C class and SLK will be the only models with manuals available in the U.S. market.

I wish they would find a way to get a version of VAG's DSG gearbox. It's really the best of both worlds and it is strong enough to handle the torque of the bigger MB engines. VW are supposed to import a limited number of DSG equipped R36 Golf's to the USA later this year. The DSG makes the BMW SMG seem really crude.

Potato Chip, custom canuter valve, low-friction muffler bearings, synthetic turn signal fluid, Hi-Definition Progressive Scan Wiper Blades.
Law-makers are supposed to regulate in the interest of the public as opposed to regulating in the interest of the regulated party.
If it says Pratt and Whitney on the outside it better say Martin Baker on the inside.

Always loved driving a manual, especialy my Wrangler with the top off, but once you become a commuter driving in stop and go traffic...forget about it. It's automatic all the way!
