Really? My dealer charges the same as it costs to buy the batteries in the supermarket might be a tiny bit more.

I'm just kidding NZ when I said that, to be honest I get free key fob batteries from my Stealer

If the metal key is still intact and only the housing is broken, just replace the case. Takes 5 minutes. When you get one from the dealer, it includes coding, key and case. Basically, if the internal transmitter is broken, you're stuck with only the dealer option.

Depending on the condition of the innards, you could get one of the remotes sold on E-Bay, remove the innards and use yours. The remotes can not be reprogrammed, no matter what the seller says (guaranteed to work might mean it worked when the parking attendand found it in the glove box of someone eles car)
Dealers give discounts to MB members, you also dont have to order the metal key, I think the new (style) remotes are shipping with the chrome sides.
