Inertia switch

On previous cars (eg. 1990s Toyota and Ford) I have known about an inertia, or gravity switch designed to trip the fuel pump should the car get a sharp jolt - as in a crash. This was a safety feature to prevent the car bursting into flames if the fuel pump continued to run following an accident. Sometimes this inertia switch could be inadvertently tripped when parking carelessly, so it was necessary to know how to reset it. It was generally in the boot under the spare wheel, and just needed to be pressed to reset it.

My question is: Do MB cars have such an electro-mechanical feature, as I can find nothing about it in my Owners Handbook?

Mercs have the appropriate safety device.

Not user resettable--see dealer.

Many cars with Bosch fuel injection (or a derivative) have a device called a mass airflow sensor. Mass airflow sensors are used to determine engine air intake. When the ECU determines the engine is no longer ingesting air, it stops the fuel pump. Which model Toyotas and Fords had the inertia switch?

One of the famous "safety device" is inertia switch, that unlocks the doors in case of accident.
All it takes the thieves is a sledge hammer and knowledge of the switch location. ....

Hi. This is from the UK. There was one in the boot (trunk) of my 1998 Celica which was resettable. And there was a similar switch in my 1990 Ford Mondeo.

In fact this car was once stolen from a public carpark and used to rob a Post Office. It was recovered about an hour later. I checked it out with the cops, and we found that the enertia switch had it's wires snipped. The cops told me that this was a common trick used by these guys so that the car would keep running - even if they side-swiped other cars during their getaway!
