Average battery life

What is the average battery life of a benz. My battery is four years old and whenever I drive the car all non essential elctronic devices get turned off due to a low charge on the battery. Should I just replace the battery or dhould I try to charge it to see what happens. thanks.

It all depends on usage and other factors, but I would say about 5 years or so.

Because of the difference in driving styles, "average life" varies. A car that's started daily and driven for 20 miles will probably have a battery that lasts a lot longer than a car that's driven on weekends when the weather is nice and put away for the winter.

I wouldn't charge a 4 year old battery. I buy batteries every 4 years regardless as to how it performs. I do this because (1)waiting until a battery is at death's door taxes the alternator more than I find necessary and (2) batteries have a nasty habit of dying at inconvenient times - like when I'm ready to start the car and go some where.

I hope this helps.

I know you are new here, so I just wanted to point something out. If you add the model of your car to either your profile (appears to the left of the post) or signature (appears at the bottom), people will know what car you have, and you won't have to type that in the message text box every time. Look at the top for My BenzWorld and you should find that easy to do.

I just replaced 8-years old battery in the wagon, while the 9-years old in ML is still holding.
Looks, like cold weather is shortening battery life and people in 4-seasons seldom get 6 years out of the battery.
BTW the mentioned ML for several years was weekend only vehicle, so there goes above theory.

I only get about 3 years or so, from a battery, but the trips are not very var and not very often. And that's with a good Interstate battery, too

The battery on my car was purchased 2001 and it's never given me any problems electrically. Always started on the first click (except for when I left it once in D or when I forgot to retighten the cables after a DIY).

I'm on my original battery 2005 C230. short trips to work just a few miles away in the heat of the desert. Most batteries in Palm Springs die every 2 yrs, but I am thinking with the "air cooled" benz battery 7 yrs this one just starts right up!

7-10 Years in Florida environment. I would personally and highly recommend you install in your Car, Motorcycle, Boat, Aeroplane, a Battery Tender ( battery maintainer ).
It has this awesome intelligent brain in there and it analyzes the Battery and gives it a Charge or Desulfates the Battery. Less than $40 to purchase and gives you enormous peace of mind.
