After having WTC ruin rotors on 2 cars due to over torquing the wheel lugs, I invested in a torque limiting stick for each car.
Its in the boot and I clearly tell the Tech to use it and demand that I witness the install.
I was at a shop in Queens (Poor Freddies) and the tech had no problem doing it my way, but another shop tried to shoo my wife away by saying "Honey, we have a Pressure control on your air guns so don't worry"... well she knows that I know more about air gun systems than most Techs and walked over to the manifold adn saw the gauge at 200 PSI and that there was NO LIMITER in the air line going to the service bay her car was in and told the guy "Put the stick on the gun or I'll do it myself" and then walked over to the Manager and asked him which of my boots did he want up his butt when I next came by to have a chat with him...
Needless to say we don't go there anymore (BTW they are on the shop list here on the site).
90% of the shops out there do not monitor Tech performance and rely on customer complaints as an indicator of quality workmanship.
The shops that have repeat customers and stand behind their work are the reason they have a line of folks waiting for service.
Just because the Tech is Ex MB. does not mean they are good, it just means they were in a place where they had a chance to learn any may not have done so...
