Factory OEM Oil Filter

Windshield Washer Fluid; I use the $2/Gallon stuff that also debugs the Windshield.

I am not one to skimp. I like using the "good stuff".
Goodyear belts, Gates Belts
Bosch, Mobil 1
I also like to change out BEFORE its required
If Fuel Filter is every 20K miles, I change it once a year
If Oil "needs" to change at 10K I'll change it at 7,500 +/-
Wiper Blades 1x-2x Year ( Florida Sun, UGH! )

I will admit to yall; my Brake Fluid in the past; was not religiously changed.
However I am going to invest in a Power Flush system and regularly flush
those contaminants out. I think it was laziness on my part and lack of knowledge.

Dang; I thought we had it bad, sounds like Volkswagen is killing their people!

When I had my couple of 70s era Porsches, the running joke was that if we built one from scratch out of their dealer's parts departments, they would cost 3X as much. VW was mentioned here, but I don't think the exorbitant markups on parts is unique to the German cars. Neither do I think this idea is only found in the automobile business.

To somewhat echo what GermanStar said, I used to sell medical equipment. We might make $300 selling an EKG machine, but the customer had a lot of consumable supplies for it that made that sale much more profitable if they used it for 5-10 years.

With all due respect Marcus, I thought M-B is still telling us not to change the transmission fluid. Did they finally change their tune, at least as far as our 772.6x units are concerned?

I use Mobil1 0W-40 oil because it's the #1 recommended oil by MB. I heard they switched to a different weight Mobil1 though. For appropriate oils check out whnet.com/4x4/oil.html.

The ML has a paper filter currently, because that's the only choice we had at the time on a moment's notice. Will definitely change to fleece soon.

My dealer is now using Mobil1 5W40, but I will still have 0W40 for another 2000 miles until the next (~62,000) "B" service is due according to the FSS.

As of last year MB changed from Never to every 50k. And you should know this since you were a key contributer to the thread discussing this question... Do you not remember?

Musikmann, though it has been discussed ad nauseum in several other threads, it appears MB has changed their minds on changing transmission fluid in the 722.6. Have heard several different suggested change times with a wide range of mileage. My dealer is currently suggesting 100k.

Give it a year or two and am sure they'll come up with something else. The main thing is to just not not expect "forever" if you plan to be the owner at higher miles.

No...I'm just the one that does the research and if time and weather permit, attempt the maintenance myself.

As I remember, no one was able to produce any documentation of that "assertion", so to my way of thinking, their official policy remains a rumor and innuendo. Please also see the previous johnamoss comment mentioning the M-B and/or dealer inconsistancies.

All I think I know as fact is that the newer cars (2006+) are required a 39,000 mile change, and then become "lifetime" transmissions after that. Please correct me if I am wrong.

That is what I remember as the "bottom line" of my Email from MBUSA about transmission service thread
