Question Mercedes-Benz Sebring????????

I rented a Chrysler Sebring last weekend while I was out of town. Very nice car, solid and well worth the $18,000-20,000 price.

I got my Star magazine from MBCA yesterday with a pictoral on the new C class and guess what? It looks remarkably like the Sebring I rented. The interior is EXACTLY the same!

Could the rumours of platform sharing between Chrysler and MB be true? If so it's going to be harder to dump Chrysler. It would also mean that I've bought my last Mercedes-Benz. The $20,000 price difference would be very hard to swallow!

Just because Mercedes decides to part with Chrysler doesn't mean they'll stop and make production for platform sharing cars more difficult. They could just sell the rights to the company name, designs and management.

My thoughts on the new Sebring are that I think it looks hideous on the outside...it's awfully cheap on the inside and from what I read on the magazines, the driving dynamics are soft, uninvolving and disconnected. Otherwise it's comfortable and spacious...but at that point I'd get a better looking Cadillac or Lexus if I wanted comfort and spacious.

I was at my Chrysler dealer yesterday for service. I looked at a few of the Sebrings they had on the lot. All of the ones I saw were in the $25,000 range (base price about $19,000 w/several options, but all had the 2.7L engine).

The brochure that was lying around in the customer lounge highlighted the Limited which has 2 color options for leather interiors and the 3.5L "well proven" 6-cyliner 24-valve, DOHC engine. I don't know what those cost, but I'm a little tempted to trade my 1994 Plymouth Acclaim w/147k in on one (lol, like it's worth anything!)

I see nothing alike between the two.

The Plymouth will be worth a boatload. It's now a lost marque, like Packard, AMC and Cord.

I wrote one of the first design critiques of the Sebring:

The Truth About Cars

Just looking at it tells me that the Chrysler organization is in complete disarray.

Slightly off topic, but I've recently seen two Sebrings sporting AMG rims. Platform sharing, sure, but that seems like a crime.

Not necessarily platform sharing. I remember seeing MB wheels on a Volkswagen Passat.
