Why can't MB follow Lexus with the GPS nav & sound systems??

a coworker got the new lexus LS. sleek looking car, but what really blew me away were the mark levinson audio system and the GPS nav. the audio system sounded better than many of the reference quality home systems I heard, and the nav was only about 100x better than the COMMAND/MB ones I tried before.

why can't MB follow Lexus and have the same equipment installed in MB cars? it's just a matter of finding the right suppliers, why can't MB do the same..???

Hey,
We've had 4 LS400/430's. I'll agree with you that the Comand system is really clunky compared to the LS interface. The Bluetooth on my Benz really annoys me compared to the LS430 we had. The Lexus stuff is mainly Denso stuff. I'm not sure if MB uses Siemens or Alpine for their Comand systems.

I still think the BMW style iDrive Mercedes is adopting is a bad idea. I sat in a new S550 in the showroom and it got on my nerves. It's a car, not an Airbus!!

We had the ML on our LS430. It was good, but I honestly can't tell the difference between that and the Bose in my dad's S430. I find the Harman Kardon in my E350 to be really good, as good as the ML in the GS I test drove.

Because that's what the Japanese excel at: electronics.

sv7887-I actually found the new Comand controller to be very easy to use!! Still not as good as the touch screen, but much cleaner looking console as a result of the new design. My little brother who's 13 found it easy to use as well.

Kent County. Nobody on the forums is ever on this side of the state. Always in the Ann Arbor-Detroit area.

I don't know who lives in the AA area off the top of my head, but of the MI members, that's where they are, I think.

I like this place too much to move over there!! The roads aren't as sucky, the schools are great, and so are the girls. I might be over there in a few years for college though.

I don't think so, Animals. You are going to an Ivy League school so that you get a good foundation for your medical boards. I have already started looking at Brown, Harvahd and Yale. The neighborhood around Yale scared me, so I never left the car. Brown is looking very promising. I will keep you up to date.
