As a very informed Benz owner who has also dealt with Mercedes Benz USA when trying to resolve a serious problem that the dealer would not address, I see this site as a necessity to get MBUSA's attention. I doubt they care but it gives others a view of MB that many people have had over the past eight or so years.
I bought a Starmarked [now CPO] car from a NY Benz Dealer in 99. The dealer certified it to MB specs. Later it was found to have had $11K in damage which was known by the Benz dealer but never reported on either the VMI, Carfax or any other reporting system. It was only found after the parked car was hit again and could not be fixed because previous damage was not fixed correctly [dealer sent car to backdoor bodyshop instead of bodyshop of record for their dealership].
After getting nowhere with the dealer, I contacted MBUSA who took the most aggressive hands off approach I have ever encountered. After four months the only way I got to actually talk to anyone at MBUSA was to crash a press conference at the North American Auto Show in Detroit when Paul Helada was introducing one of the new cars. I got to talk to Helada, Autoweek, Automobile Mag and Helada's security guys.
While some of the folks on the site have very minor complaints, some are very real. Some of the issues are costing customers a lot of money and that is not right. MBUSA has had a policy in the past that you have to sue them to get anything and that they will wear you down in court. My experience bears that out.
Being smart is knowing the difference, in a sticky situation between a well delivered anecdote and a well delivered antidote - bear.
