fan motor regulator 1994 320 wagon

I have a 1994 320 wagon I bought new. It lives at a second house. The heater/ac fan was intermittent for a couple weeks, but now it does not run at all. The AC compressor will turn on and off but the interior fan won’t run. The heat will turn on if you ask it, but again no fan to distribute the air.

I’d be happy if I could just run the fan with the slow, med and fast buttons because the microprocessor was never good at figuring out the noisy fan speed in the first place. I’m guessing I have no choice but to replace the blower motor regulator, but I thought I’d ask if it was possible to just make the fan follow the buttons and remove all the fuzzy logic in the system?

Any independent mbz people in LA worth knowing about? The dealer downtown gave me a $1,000. bid to replace and for a car worth 6K that's a load to spend.

Thanks

What you are asking for is called "monkey job".
No reputable mechanic will even consider that.
Than if the problem is just control - I see not a big job to bypass the fan wiring and add a switch powered directly from the main board.
Wringing diagram would be good place to start.
