I need some advice from the experts

My wife and I are thinking about buying a 1990 420SEL with 99,000 miles on it. First off he is asking $4000 for it. Is that a pretty good deal? The next thing is the valve cover is leaking and needs to be fixed. Is that an expensive thing to fix? Any help would be awesome!

You are coming to MB owners club and asking if this is good idea to own Mercedes???
99,000 miles and $4000 for a clean car sounds good. You can get more specific info about this model in appropriate section.
Should assume that 17-years old car might need more gaskets replaced, than the valve cover only. Leaks are common issue on cars more than decade old.

The w126's are great cars. The price seems good. Hopefully it just has a leaky valve cover gasket-easy fix. Autohaus AZ has the part.

Welcome to BenzWorld longhornfreak! Sounds like a fair deal for a fine automobile. Which valve cover is it? The right side cover is known to warp/fail. Otherwise, it's probably just a little nickel-dime gasket.

HA! Yeah probably not the best thing to ask this forum to own a Mercedes huh? Thanks for the notes on this car from you guys. I need to check which side the leak is coming from when I go see it again tomorrow. If it is the right side, I should probably look into it further it looks like. Thanks again for your time. If anybody has any other thought I would love to hear them.

Germanstar probably has the parts as well. Good place to get parts from. I am sure lots of others on this site would agree.
