I guess you really got lucky on several levels.
I still can't believe your state law though, ruining someone's life with a criminal record for speeding.

to be honest dukeblue91, for the speed he was going it would be criminal. When I first got a speeding ticket, I was doing 90 mph in a 65 zone. Now I realy got lucky on this. I merging onto the freeway and had to punch the gas to avoid another car.....cali drivers like to drive right next to you on merges..... ........well i didnt realize my car hopped from 40mph to 90mph in about a couple of seconds. The cop pulled me over after I had already started slowing down at about 70mph and took that into consideration.

he said I clocked you doing 90 but he wrote 85mph. He also made it an infraction. After going to court and paying the fine $130, I learned my lesson. On the ticket here in Cali sertain limits go from infraction - misdameanor - wreckless endangerment crimal charge.

I am happy he paid his dues, but the sad part is not most people are lucky as stated by others in this post. So many people loose there lives by speeding or by those who speed. I see it every single day driving, huge lifted trucks going over 100mph, hondas hooked up, BMW's flying by. All these cars cant even stay in lane on unsuspected turns because they drive so close behind others.

I learned my lesson and the ticket is already off my driving record. The wired part is I still says GOOD DRIVER on my record even though I had 1 point on it.

Slybydesignw21 I understand what you are saying and the same goes for asianml, it was very dangerous what the op did and nothing to joke about and could have easily ended in tragedy.
Having said that, I just don't think that getting a criminal record for speeding is the right punishment.
Perhaps if there was an accident then yes, it also depends where the speeding happened, in a town or some country or back road.

Just think about it, if he were one year older he might as well rob someone and his life would have been just as ruined.
The better punishment would have been taking his license away for a few month to think about it.
Heck a DWI isn't being that punishable in most states, but should be.

VA has a similar law. Anything over 80 is automatically a felony.

Who needs an education when you have a Mercedes? If I were your dad I would have made you sell the car. (Plus I would have forbidden you from driving for at least a year, so you would not have needed a car anyway.)

damn, a felony for going over 80mph? do they saw your arm off if you get caught stealing? i hope they don't cut your dick off if you engage in pre-marital sex. a few years back i got a ticket for driving 115 in a 65. i paid a fine and lost my license from that state, but i just went to the neighboring state and got a license from them.
