The anodizing process somehow eats away at the aluminum and weakens it - worse for cast wheels than for forged but bad for both. It's actually banned by the TUV in Germany.

I went a different way a few years ago and had my rims polished. I'm very happy with the look and the longevity but they are higher maintenence.

I got a set chromed and although they will polish a bad spot out to the degree possible, they won't actually repair or add metal to the wheel.

Chrome will accentuate damage, not hide it.

Thanks. Speedway Metal in Anaheim in '02. Not really sure if they're still around.

The best part... $220 including the mount. I think it was one of my better deals.
