04 SL500 purchase question

Considering a 2004 SL500 in Phoenix with 1,333 orginal miles and although it does have low miles, the warranty expires December of this year. Any ideas on what to look out for i.e rubber hoses, electrical etc ? I know an extended aftermarket warranty should probably be a mandatory consideration although having read so many conflicting opinions on these it is difficult to select the right company. Thanks in advance! FG

If it is a private sale see, if the current owner can purchase the extended MB warranty, I think it can be transferred on a private sale.

Nice find! My concern is the abnormally low miles. It's very hard to find an SL which has so little miles (400 miles/yr). When did this person drive the car? Like I said before, if it all checks out, it sounds like a great car. Good luck on the purchase.

High performance automobiles should be driven regularly and w/ some "spirit." Leaving one sit is much more damaging than driving one hard. Be careful...

I would like to see the receipts that show all the maintenance has been done on time. Occasionally, owners of ultra low mileage vehicles ignore the maintenance. The oil and filter must be changed once every 12 months, the brake fluid should have been changed, the coolant should have been changed 24 months after the build date, and it may be due again now. The fuel filter, engine air filter, and cabin air filter may also be due. The maintenance booklet will tell you how long each of those filters are good for. I personally wouldn’t worry about checking the hoses or electrical. I’d spend $200 and have a dealer give it a pre-purchase inspection.

Congrats in advance on what will no doubt be a car in very good condition.

'04 was the last year MB included the free maintainance. I would go to the dealer and get a printout of the service record. That would clear up any questions regarding service. Good Luck!

You should definitely get the extended warranty - on anything with over 950 miles on it.
