I do think the 126 is going to be a timeless Benz look. I think as time goes by that WILL be the car people think of with classic Benz look. The options for me for next Benz is I think is another 124 or 140. I never thought I was going to collect cars. I seen on here some guys with 9 cars (8 Benz's and a Porsche) and I thought this is nuts. I am now starting to understand what takes over you guys. You want this AND you want that one. They become art or something! As for the S class time will tell but I bet not a big deal down the road. Why when the metal got thin did the cars loose something. Something of substance. There must be something going on with the used market? In my area a good 124 (say clean 400e 1992) is asking more than a 210?
The best part is that I have less money tied up in ALL of my cars [race cars included] than in a new 2004 E55 AMG or S Class. Fun part is I have a couple of restoration projects, a couple or race cars and the rest are bullet proof drivers that stand the test of time. I decided a long time ago that others can eat depreciation. I will gladly take their seconds. I find it fun to benefit from the conspicuous consumption of others.

Thumbs up

Man that is a sexy 500...Somehow I don't see any of the current Benzes looking so good even after10 years, but these old bodies seem to have timeless elegance. In Russia they still prefer the old "big body" S classes over the new ones, and everyone still loves the w124 bodies. You can export those to Russia and sell them in a heartbeat all they long.

My guess it depends on the Class of car and the particular line and factory. By the 80's, all the cars had some level of robotics. Pics of the 500E, which were shuffled between the Benz plant and the Porsche plant an ungodly number of times shows bots in the line. So I think the era of dollied cars "ala Ferrari" may actually be long gone.

McBear I was in Stuttgart Germany at the outside of the Porsche factory in 1989 a few years before the famous 500e was being built. The Porsche 911's were coming in and out of the lot all the time. I keep thinking what a job test driving 911's! Dd you know that Mercedes fired Ferdinand?
