It was not my intention to discourage you from being interested in MB. I'm just sharing my toughts and experience with MBs. I had first hand experience buying a "cheap MB", it's a nigntmare.

I'm also in Los Angeles-Corona-Riverside area. So, I understand why you are not unfamilair with W201, 190 or "Baby Benz". I don't want to offend any one. But, in LA these entry level models are not considered as "the" Benz. So, you seldom see them in places you'd expect to see expensive cars. Check Autotrader and you'll find some for around $2,000.00-3,000.00 range. Well within your budget. I even came accross a 90 560SEL (a real Benz) for $3,500.00.

Again, I will reiterate my comment, though these are within your aquisition budget, the maintanance cost will bite you.

I was just posting on a similar subject on the 126 section regarding the differance in maintenance between a 126 and 124. Within your budget you would do very well to find a nice 300 sel as the conscensus is they are the most inexpensive of the "Real" benzes (126) to operate. And there happens to be one available within this post. I have no affiliation with the seller but have seen enough about his car to believe its a solid deal. Plus it's enthusiast owned which in my book is a plus.

some good models

190d 2.2
190d 2.5
190d2.5 turbo
300d
240d
300sd
All diesels because I believe in their reliablity and good gas mileage.

W201 is the chassis code for the 190-series.
W202 is the C-Class that superceded it, and W203 is the C-Class currently on sale at MB Dealerships.

Scroll down the main forums page and all will become clear, including periods of manufacture
Thanks for the compliments!
