For your area, a hassle free, comfortable and reasonably safe, dead reliiable and drive it for 100,000 miles and forget it car would be a Ford Crown Victoria or Mercury Grand Marquis. Good ones can be had for dirt cheap, considering what you get back. $10,000 would get a nice 2003 probably, Jayhawk. Maybe even a 2004 used Police Interceptor with the "street Appearance" (ie Police car with all Heavy duty equipment Police package, a nice color, a supervisors or take home detective car never used on patrol like a vomit comet) if you search around places like KC Cop cars on line, ebay, the North Carolina HP site etc.
The Grand Marquis GS at some dealers in the Midwest brand new are being blown out for as low as $17,000 at some L/M dealers, (escially in the Midwest, places in Indiana, Illinois, etc) That's with a $5000 incentive on them now. Even the Police Dept. can't get new Crown Vic Police Interceptorsw that cheap. The Marquis GS even in basic form is well equipped, Sngle disc CD, ABS, airbags, Cruise control and so on
