Help! How about this G500 & any differences?

Ok so here is the deal...I have an offer to take over the finance payments of my friend's G500. It is a 2002 G 500. First question, from the 2002 to the 04-06 are there is no difference in the G class by the looks? The body has no difference at all correct....and are there any differences in the inside?

Ok now to my question, this car has not been giving him any problems at all and he is my best friend. It is a 2002 with 112,000 miles and it seems to be in good condition. How long will the G class go until it gives me engine problems or whatever? What I mean by this, will it go 200,000 miles? IS there any problems I should know of? IF something goes on with the engine, how much would it be to put a new one?

This is a good opportunity because I love this car. I know it is a 2002, but it is nearly identical to a 2006 and no one would know. On top of that, I can put some nice 22 or 23' rims later on and pimp it out even more and it has exhaust system and everything. I'm also 22 years old and I want a pimp car that really stands out...i'm young once and I want to have fun...and the car won't even go on my credit...other than that, there are only small problems that are inside of the car which I can fix. I would appreciate all responses...I really am thinking of getting this car within the next two weeks. Thanks!

You are correct, no visual differences. There are some well-documented problems with elusive electronic gremlins in 2002 and early 2003 Gs. Not everyone with a 2002/3 G has had these probs, but they are very common. This truck was made to last a long, long time in the worst of conditions, and the engine in the G500 is a darn fine one. It will likely last several hundred thousand miles with proper care.

For the sake of honoring the great history of the G and respect for the vehicle, I would strongly discourage any "pimping" of such a magnificent truck. Wheels over 18" do not belong on this machine. Get an Escalade or other urban assault vehicle if you want that sort of thing.

Also, kindly fill in your profile.

Good Day.

I can understand the desire to be different but the G as is attracks attention that an Escalade does not and by adding 22s, you loose all offroad ability and diminish it's on road ride quality. I suggest being really different, origonal and unique than your friends and having a quality German car WITHOUT 22s. It's alot classier.

I understand what you are saying but I will not off-road with this car. What's wrong with 22's and putting plasmas in it and making it look all flashy? IT's such a nice car and expensive looking car and that's what makes it stand out and thas what the girls like...

I never understood people who took trucks and put big rims on them... makes the truck completely useless.

I just think its ugly and impractical.

Indeed. Stick with an Escalade, or to be even "classier," step up to an Avalanche.

Seriously - if you're doing this because "that's what the girls like" then you need to find some better girls.

Nonetheless, good luck w/ whatever you decide to do.

The Gelandewagen really hasn't changed for the last 25 years. lol

And don't destroy a nice Gelandewagen by putting massive rims that will destroy your differentials and transmission. For god sakes get a damn Escalade if you want to do that. I'd rather you destroy a cheap piece of poor American engineering than a tank made by Magna Steyr.

Also, the girls that go for your car aren't the girls you want. I think those girls or "ho's" are called "gold diggers" in our generation. For godssakes smack some sense into yourself.
