Transmission Dipstick for CLK430

Hello everyone...

Does anyone have a transmission dipstick for a CLK430 (or should I say special service tool)? If so, could someone measure the distance from the seating surface on the handle to the hot - full mark? Did a search but no luck.

I have one here at the shop but I have a feeling it is for a different model transmission. My local dealer needs to order it.

Thanks in advance.

-Dave

I think transmission dipstick and special service tool are synonymous in this case, but I don't think it is used for anything else. Since you have a dealer, why don't you just ask a service writer or one of the techs to let you borrow it for a couple of minutes? I don't think they cost very much, and if my dealer's history means anything, they can get it in for you in a couple of days.

Hi, Dave.

It's possible that I'm remembering incorrectly, but I think there are only a couple of these "tools" for several models and that the level is measured based upon the temperature of the fluid and how far up the tool it rises when it is inserted until it stops. I'm pretty sure that's in a thread somewhere from a technician's guide.

They certainly don't make it easy to check or confirm the level, that's for sure.

Good luck,
Greg

There is a picture here:

MercedesShopWiki: 722.6 Transmission Fluid and Filter Change

It's for 722.6 tranny, I'm not sure it's the same for CLK430.

I bought my dipstick tool from El Paso Tools on e-bay. Cost was about $30 including shipping. That's about half what I saw on some dealer prices.

Ouch, my bad. I thought they were less than $20; thanks Len!

Thanks everyone for the info. We were able to get the measurements from a friend who is a tech at a local dealership.

Not sure what the other one I have here fits, but it was nowhere near correct...
