At our place engine idling is only allowed for max two minutes, should not be a problem to have parking lights on for that time :-)

I guess MBs are configured for many markets to switch on lights (main beams can be switched off though).

Staying longer in the car: use the rest button or your auxiliary heater, if you have one.

Sounds like your car is programmed for daytime running lights.

Read in your owners manual how to change this.

Shouldn't MB service be able to program the car with DAS for "no lights" unless auto or on is selected from the lights switch?

Sounds like DRLs...try going into the MFD menu and see if DRLs have been activated.

Actually tried the DRL setting on my car today. At my place lights have to be used day and night and I thought I could not switch lights off by turning DRL off from the instrument cluster computer but it worked after all.
