I was living on the other side of Sac, (North Higlands) A.K.A North Harlem
Here's my not-so-logical thinking:
1. The thieves are Asian. They hit these apartments all the time, but it's always Hondas. Around here, Russians hit the BMW/Mercs, Mexicans/Blacks hit the older American cars, whites hit the Mustangs/Lexus. They never take anything except the stereo or steal the entire car. The cars are always recovered and have been stripped for parts. They don't take CDs, Money, Documents or any personal items (sunglasses, gloves, etc).
2. There's 2 of them at most. The board that I had the amps mounted to was so big, it wouldn't fit in anything except a hatchback or a truck/van. Considering that they're obviously into Honda, I'm guessing it's some sort of Civic hatchback (the sub box was also very large), which would only seat 2 people.
3. They always break in the exact same way. They pry the window open and use something to get the door open through the crack. When my wife's car was hit, there was scratches in the exact same places as where my trim was scratched and where the glass was obviously broken at (above pic).
By talking to the maintenance guy today, he said they're getting more frequent, hitting more cars at once and obviously getting more bold in their moves. I've got the nicest car in the apt complex so I think they looked, noticed the Eclipse head unit and just assumed there was more in the trunk.
I can't help but wonder about our supposed security here. I'm going to get a hold of them on Monday and have them check their records. I want to see if it's the same person on patrol all the nights the complex has been hit. I know it sounds like a conspiracy, but how does a security company miss several cars in one night, on several occasions? I'm wondering if it's just some $7.00 an hour security guy looking the other way while his buddies hit the place up. Really, the way I installed the system, it would have taken them at least 30 minutes to get everything. They normally pull all the plugs. I could tell by damage that they were getting desperate with mine. I just don't see how security could miss 4 cars being broken into and one stolen.
Of course, the cops only take a report for "statistical reasons".
