Hi everyone! It's neat to see this little game of mine migrated over here. I was actually going to start this thread but I was beat to it! I think it's worked out pretty well, no discouraging comments, no reports of errors in the test or the webfunction- no one blurting out the answers and wrecking it for others!
I've been wanted to make something like this for quite a while. I hope you all don't think I'm stupid for this, I realize there are quiz-creating software programs that could have made it easier on me if I knew where to get one legally and incorporate it in to the website. But no, I did this the hard way! It's actually a "program" of sorts I worked up and that whole little thing is a complicated work of links within 148 different web pages!
Example: There is one page for question one, 3 pages for question 2, 7 pages for question 4, and 19 versions of question 10! There are 33 "Test concluded" pages, all determined by your answers, directing the various combo of answers to the correct percentage screen.
I had to make it 10 questions to be worth anything. I could have made it much easier if I just gave 2 choices, but that would be lame.
I used an extra 50 or so pages to avoid "cheating by link comparison" meaning, I had to make two WRONG answer pages for EACH right one with DIFFERENT web addresses, so you couldn't get by selecting the odd address out.
Anywas as the webmaster of Gatewaymbca.org (website for the local MBCA section in St. Louis) I thought it might be fun for a publicity stunt.
It's so short and simple I don't plan on releasing the answers. You can take the thing as many times as you want and work it out. By design, it can be run through repeatedly with great ease. You can get it. My mom (a Mercedes owner and developing enthusist
) took it and got 40% and was pretty happy, but then researched the net for about an hour and a half and then aced it!
It seems I succeeded giving it a little challenge without making it impossible, which makes for perfect fun.
It is supposed to get more challenging AS YOU Go, I hope you all find that is generally the case.
I am pretty generous with the verbal praise at the end, you have to score pretty darn bad to get "not good"! Can't expect everyone to be as geeky as us!
60% seems to the most popular score so far. I say 50% or more and you "know a bit about Mercedes" and 100% says you may be a little sick!
Some comments about the questions.
People are finding #8 and #10 the hardest usually, but #8 does give you the important clue you need and #10 (which isn't so hard if you think about it)
requires some in-depth W123 knowledge. One guy at MBCA who's been around MBs alot for decades (Jim who runs the 190SL group) didn't even know there was 3 different versions of that motor that year! So if you did, you have YOUR edge in the MB knowledge there! And yes, that really is 3 1985 300Ds in #702 Smoke Silver (only offered for 1985 in W123s) one normally aspirated, one turbo (Federal market) and one turbo (California market).
Thanks for playing and sharing this game over here on Benzworld, it's flattering.
