Hi....I just puchased a 1997 C280 which has a working phone in it. I was wondering if there is a serviceI can use to activate.

Thanks,

Carl

Would help answering if you would tell if the car is in the US, in Europe, in Japan or somewhere else. If it was from Europe, then just put a valid SIM card in and it should work fine. I assume you are from US and then things may get more complicated, local experts could give further advice.

Your local MB dealer should be able to help you.

Mercedes had a scam, the car was prewired, but the components had to be purchased. There were at least 6 different handsets that were tied to a service provider, Verizon, Att, Alltel they could not be changed from one to another and were different from the normal Motorola handset. The bad news is that everything was Analog and no carrier activates them, All analog sytems, including Tel-Aid, can (will) be shut down Jan 08 by a FCC descision. Those channels will resurface as GSM the worldwide standard. The handset should tell you whay system it was on, dont get your hopes up
Tel-Aid subscribers can get a digital transmitter for $1500

Smile How about a Mikbox solution?

I just installed one on my '01 E320 and it works great with my regular Motorola V600. Had to order the cradle and remove the built-in cradle, then install the little Mikbox and things have been working great ever since. I recommend you start with these guys, probably a phone call or email would be best but their website has a 'wizard' that will walk you through whether or not their solution would work for you. They're at www.mikbox.com . I'm not getting any compensation for this by the way other than a great working product! Based on my research this is about the cheapest way to get everything going. If you go to the dealer you'll spend probably about $2k. If you use the Argos solution others have talked about, you'll probably spend about $1k. The Mikbox is $280 and the cradle's another $100 so for about $400 you'll have everything working....

Hope that helps,
Walter
