CLS. How is it?

Hi!
New here. BMW addict since 2004. Changed 2 X X5, 2 X X3, a 7, a 3. Now driving a 2006 convertible M3. Nothing interesting at BMW for the moment, was thinking to go back to Mercedes- had few in the past, not much fun to drive.
Since Benz dealer does not have a CLS for test, I was wondering how it really feels? Plan to buy the 320CDI. Does it have the "boat" feeling as the S class? Is it a bit agile? Overall driving impressions? Steering feedback? Actually that was what I was missing the most on my past Merc's. Overall, does it worth the money or not?
Thanks for any input.

I'd say that the road test of a E class with the Airmatic would give you a very good insight on how it is on the road. I drove the CLS and it felt exactly like the E class!

Hope it helps!

WOW, changed vehicles 6 times in 2 years!

Stick with BMW.

The CLS is not a sports car but a luxury sport coupe.
Don't get me wrong I like MB but these days everyone
and his rich mother has a CLS.
The novalty has worn off and now every major star/celeb
has one.

Don't know about the E-class but the CDI engine is not bad I heard.
Nice power and silent.
If not mistaken the steering is drive-by-wire just like the brakes.
Can't be good for road feel and steering feedback, not to mention
if something goes wrong.

Louis.

I think you are mistaken above, any expert to confirm either way?
My understanding is that new BMWs have "an active steering component, an optional accessory" but MB has not been using even electrical power steering (the first implementations of which have not been too good on those cars that have been using it).

Even brakes got back to normal on E and CLS.

BMW and MB are both good choices anyway.

It really depends on what you're looking for.

In all honesty, the CLS most worthy of attention would be the 55 or the 63. The way AMG tuned the chassis, they made it 50% stiffer torsionally I believe. Not only that, it (CLS55 AMG) was able to lap the Top Gear track only a few tenths of a second slower than the BMW M5 E60 which sets the benchmark for the mid-size luxo saloon segment, and the CLS55 is pretty darn good. That is if you're looking for a MB to be as good of a performer as a Bimmer.

Other than that, the 5 liter petrol is alright, but would probably recommend the sport package. Other than that, stick with Bimmer for now.

Might I recommend the new M-Coupe?

Full circle, Bucharesti 1939 to Bucharesti 2006?

How about King Karl II of Romania's 1939 540K Spezial cabrio?

It's for sale right now at www.mirbach.de and you could bring it back to Bucharesti where it started out new in 1939!!!

Bring her home!
