Radio Blew Up! What in the bleep...?

Merry Christmas All;

I have a 2000 MB C230 Kompressor and I am having a dickens of a time with the AM/FM/CD Radio.

It seems my local radio stations, that should come in loud and clear without static, sound like they're in the North Pole or something!

e.g.- when I tune into AM 580 WDBO its static. Barely audible.
Yes I have microtuned it to 570/560 even the reverse 590 +/-

This is happening with 4 other LOCAL radio stations.

What gives?
Do you think maybe an antenna, fuse link or something is loose?

HELP ! I need my AM Radio Stations! :

I have NO problems with my FM stations.

Ordinarily, a bad antenna connection will provide more AM than FM. If the Fm is ok. I'm going to guess that it is an electronic problem in the radio. Most cost effective fix will be replacement. There once was a time when radios actually could be repaired and there were shops that did it all the time. Now, if it is dead, it is dead. If you don't care about the speed related volume control, any stereo shop can install an aftermarket unit.

Sounds like an antenna problem, or the main tuning unit problem.

Question, yay or nay. Is your ariel intergrated into the windscreen? If yay you'll probaly have to deal with it. My '97 beemer has it in the winscreen and all FM is perfect, but some AM staions are awful.

Thanks All for replying;
now you really got me thinking. Hmmm.
I WILL carefully check the integrated wiring in the windshield to make sure there is not a nick or something in the wiring.
If all is ok, then I suppose I will have to start shopping for a replacement
Radio System.

Thanks again!
