15 inch rims on a 2002 c230coupe?

I've got a 2002 c230 kompressor coupe with the "raspy" 2.3, and would like to make it more roadworthy on tougher roads (drive to Mexico?) so would like to set up a bit like a rallye car, perhaps get it up a bit higher, but most importantly would like to use a smaller rim and taller (beefier) tire. Can I run a 15" from an earlier car? The car came with a 16" standard and 17 as option. Any info or suggestions appreciated

i dont know the exact offset for your c230 so i cant recommend an exact rim/tire combo but as long as you maintain your outer diameter it should be fine. for example if you had a set of 205/55 R 16's as long as you maintain the 205 dimension all of your ratios would be identical you would just "minus size" leaving you with a smaller rim and a larger aspect ratio. go with a high end tire and you will be much better off and then the 40 dollar special. the construction quality is really apparent.

you could take a page from R/Ver's who carry two full size spares just incase. if you mounted everything on steel rims you would not only have a strong and inexpensive set up but you would also have a full set of curb rash ready winter rims

understand you will not get the same handling as you will have taller and therefore less ridged sidewalls. this would minor but apparent in everyday touring.

Check the size of the rim your spare tire is mounted on and the sticker showing approved tire sizes which is usually found on the "B" pillar or inside the fuel filler door. If it is a 16, the brake rotors and calipers may be too large to fit within a 15 inch rim.

If it says Pratt and Whitney on the outside it better say Martin Baker on the inside.
