What oil?

I am a recent , first time Benz owner. Just purchased a 1999 E300 TD in showroom condition with 155,000 km. I have always serviced my own vehicles and will attempt to continue to do so. This car has always had Quaker State 5 W 30 European synthetic oil. Can't find it but did find Q. S. 5w30 Advanced synthetic. How critical is it to use the exact same oil? Or can I use any Brand name synthetic 5w30? Thanks in advance for any and all replies. Ont. Canada.

Welcome to BenzWorld. If you can't find the Quaker State oil, find Mobil 1 5W-40 or Mobil 1 0W-40.

Here's a list of all of the MB approved oils.

1981 300SD DB881 ext./code #236 leather int. aka: thistle green ext./olive int.
1982 300D, DB877 ext./code #135 mb-tex int. aka: petrol green ext./creme int. (gone but not forgotten)

with so few miles the motor is a relative baby. most the oils sold have a similar addditives package save for mobile 1,and most come from the same base stocks from the same supplier. i would also be certan to use a highquality glass fiber filter if your not using an oem part.

that quaker might not be diesel rated as its a 5w30 but i might be wrong.
Mobil 1 0w40 is whats recommneded for the OM606 turbo in your E300 diesel but the 5w40 wont hurt it either and it has better diesel ratings.

You can easily find 0w40 mobil 1 at walmart or kragen.

OR another option would be shell rotella 5w40 synthetic which is also easily found at walmart.
