Look - you have bought yourself a cheap 'grey' import from Japan, built to some different standards to the US and Europe. That's why it was cheap. We all know that used cars from Japan are shipped into the UK as they are all built RHD, and therefore useless in the US.

I've no idea what a Briish sva test is. So far as I am aware you need a EEC Certificate of Conformity.

I wouldn't touch that car of yours with a bargepole.....

Something with the star up the top really, i shall add in the address and body later. i need it for my 230 slk from japan. i also just bought a w124 320 cab as well but thats a 1994 so the import rules are not as stringent as a 1997. Many thanks
I wouldn't send a forged document and certainly would not help somebody else doing that but could it be something similar my friend was after some time ago when importing an SLK. A document basically showing the engine emission levels (in that car) was needed. This is a yellow sheet that follows the car papers normally. In this referred case, all that was necessary was a copy of that document from another similar car. This does not sound illegal for me, if the authorities in your case accept a copy (and if this is at all what you need to get your paperwork accepted).

I'm sure you meant to say "Ethics....", which is certainly not an exclusive American concept.

Recruiting people for criminal activities on an Internet public forum . . . . . . . .

Among other things, in the U.S. this would be a conspiracy to defraud the DOT – a felony. I would suppose the UK has similar rules about defrauding the MOT. It is the UK's Ministry of Transport you're trying to dupe, right? As an aside, Mercedes-Benz USA employs people to read forums. I wouldn't be surprised if Mercedes-Benz UK had people who perform the same function.

At any rate, you probably don't want to recruit anyone from the Americas in this enterprise. You definitely don't want a letterhead from the U.S. Those of us in the U.S. usually receive correspondence from a dealer. Other than Mercedes-Benz of Manhattan, U.S. dealers are retailers with a franchisor license. Aside from dealers, the closest we come to receiving something from "Mercedes-Benz" is Mercedes-Benz USA. Mercedes-Benz USA is a subsidiary of DaimlerChrysler North American Holding Corporation. I'm pretty sure a Mercedes-Benz USA or DaimlerChrysler North American Holding letterhead would look a little odd to anyone who's seen a DaimlerChrysler UK Ltd. letterhead.

Personally, I'd pay Mercedes-Benz their fee. It's cheaper than the hourly rate of a good attorney, and at the rate this is going . . . . . .
