Oh the W124 is certainly on my list, it's just my priorities are different with the W126. I fell in love with the car when I saw it in the car chase of Lethal Weapon 4. Since then...I said to myself: I want a 560SEL (even though the 420 was used).

Now, not being quite old enough to have children your age, I'll try to play devil's advocate and think of reasons why I would be reluctant to let a 16 year old get a Mercedes (some of these reasons are also typical of people who have a preconceived notion of MBs - truthful of not):
1. Cost of maintenance
2. Cost of insurance
3. Every friend will want to ride in the Benz - look at accident statistics of teens driving with friends
4. Higher target of theft
5. Most teens wouldn't really take care of it
6. Too much power for a new driver (as he doesn't like the name)
7. Simple level of maturity (which is my best guess of your dad's thoughts)
Just off the top of my head.... Certainly don't make it such a big deal that it prevents you from getting anything. I admit, when I was 16, I knew a great deal about cars and took care of mine. I was also much more easily provoked into racing or driving carelessly than years later.
I know you're not really getting on my case and just helping me out. He said himself when I was suggesting a new car for my sister, who doesnt take care of her Jetta which has become a money pit, that he knows I'll take care of my car. Power wise, a Toyota Camry SE V6 will beat a 420 and most 560s off the line. Target of theft, we live in Saddle River, NJ, Bergen County, where all the wealthy executives that work in NYC live. Now, I'm not trying to make myself sound arrogant, nor am I ruling out the possibility of theft or crime of any sort. It's just it's highly unlikely as opposed to if I lived in Paterson, NJ, where it is more likely. So Theft really isn't much of a problem, even in the areas I do drive commonly in. Maintainence, I've saved a crap load of paychecks for maintainence. Insurance shouldn't be that high. It's a big, heavy and safe car and is uncommon among my age group, especially where I live, kids my age drive BMW M3s and Mercedes C32s, Hummer H2s, Range ROvers, G55s and the sort. I even compared it, the name's no different when parents buy their kids Brand new C-Classes, that cost nearly 3-4 times as much and probably 3-4 times as much to maintain.
