OK, you quite convinced me with those BMW prices (assuming that is not a single CD for limited map coverage but a comparable set of maps, I assume this is the case).
I thought MB updates were not even available every 6 months (like TomTom and others may be) but say every 2 years an update could be important, depends of course a lot where one drives and on personal preferences.
By the way, experts have shown how one can add POI data on the BMW DVD system. The MB data seems more protected, at least I have not seen any guides showing this being possible for MB.
This Navi DVD availability sounds a bit like the US cell phone support being limited to Motorola phones with MB specific SW only (in the past) if BMW discs are available from Navteq but MB discs are not (Teleatlas or Navteq?).
I think we reached a compromise at least, starting from a 350 to 50 dollar ratio an ending after a bargain to a ratio of 350 to 200 ;-) I'll anyway take it as "you won".
Even if this would not hurt their car sales, up-to-date maps at reasonable cost (on a fair comparison) would keep the users more happy (it may actually inspire more people buying MBs).
