Help with electronic key programming

I own a 1995 S320 and a 1998 CLK320 both of which were purchased used and both needed new keys due to wear and tear on the original keys. I purchased 2 brand new keys from ebay and I'd like to know if anyone can explain how to program these keys. My local dealership won't even talk about it. The S-class has the old box transmitter with lock, unlock, open trunk, and panic. I've already cut the metal part of the key to manually unlock the doors and ignition. The CLK came with the 1st generation smart key, I've upgraded to the second generation smart key that is smaller. Can ANYBODY please help me out with this, cause this key won't even register in the electronic ignition, thanks!

Try a search on this forum e.g. with "ebay" and "key", this has been discussed a lot. The new cars are totally no-go. One document gave a hint that pre-97 cars could be a bit different. Go figure, I have no personal experience and would use dealer support if keys are an issue.

You purchased useless items, unless you consider the housings are worth something! The 95 maybe probably not, the 98 Smart Key forget.

I bought an extra key for my 1998 E430 from the dealership. It was pretty expensive - $150 I think, but it worked right out of the bag. The parts guy told me they are VIN-specific and have to come from Mercedes.

Good luck, and welcome to the forum
